The Newcastle Stock Theft and oSizweni Crime Prevention units teamed up last Thursday to catch the elusive stock thieves running rampant in the area.

The suspects’ vehicle was spotted in oSizweni and police believe they were on their way to their ‘buyer’.

According to reports, the officers found two sheep inside the vehicle. The sheep were apparently stolen in the Madadeni area the previous day.

Police managed to arrest three suspects, aged between 30 and 35, who made their first appearance in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court on July 31.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni lauded the arrests.

“We appeal to the community that they must not buy stolen livestock and those who buy them will be arrested. The community must assist the police in fighting crime by reporting all those who are involved in crime,” she concluded.
