Update: Search for drowned dentist continues

The search was called off late last night (Sunday) and started again this morning at 5am

Police divers are busy searching a lake at the Drakensberg Sun Hotel for missing Ladysmith dentist Dr MQ Khan.

The search was called off late last night (Sunday) due to cold weather and started again this morning at 5am.

Dr Khan is believed to have drowned in a boating accident yesterday afternoon.

It is believed that a teenager was also in the canoe at the time of the accident. The canoe capsized, throwing both occupants into the water. The teenager was wearing a life-jacket and attempted to raise the alarm. At this stage, it is unclear why the doctor was not wearing a life-jacket. The teenager was rescued from the bitterly-cold water.

The type of canoe used can be seen on the riverbank. It is an open Kayak-style canoe.
