Firefighters vanquish raging veldfire
A swift response by firefighters, who managed to contain the blaze, prevented any damage to surrounding buildings.

Approximately two thousand creosote poles, used for erecting signs, were destroyed when a fire broke out at the Department of Roadworks in Van Riebeeck Street on Friday, August 14.
It is alleged that the fire may have been caused by a spark which ignited when the blade of a grader struck a rock, which subsequently set alight the dry grass in the area.
The fire, which started in an adjacent veld, quickly spread into the camp where the poles and other equipment were stored.
A swift response by firefighters, who managed to contain the blaze, prevented any damage to surrounding buildings.
