One dead following night of violence

A young man has been confirmed dead following last night’s violence at Craigside, adjacent to the Dundee Vryheid Road.

The man, whose name and age has not yet been released, died this morning in Madadeni Hospital after he was transferred from Dundee Hospital.

Police and security officials used rubber bullets to disperse a crowd of several hundred following an attempt by EFF supporters to ‘grab land’ below Talana Museum.   Protestors said the rampage followed after three people had been shot at by security officers.

Stones were thrown at passing motorists and the Dundee Vryheid Road was closed for several hours.

Two men were arrested for public violence and are expected to appear in court tomorrow.
