17 Suspects brought to book for stock theft

The arrested suspects appeared in various courts for their charges and the recovered livestock were returned to their lawful owners.

A joint operation conducted by Vryheid Stock Theft Unit, Melmoth Stock Theft Unit and Vryheid Visible Policing Unit yielded positive results when 17 suspects were arrested.

According to a report by Major Thulani Zwane, the operation was conducted from August 14 to August 24 and was concentrated in the northern part of KwaZulu-Natal.

43 cattle and one skin were recovered. Fourteen suspects were charged for stock theft, one was charged for possession of livestock suspected to be stolen and two were charged for illegal hunting. Fifteen summons were issued.

The arrested suspects appeared in various courts for their charges and the recovered livestock returned to their lawful owners.

Police are commended for their excellent work and will continue with such operations which include observations, patrols and roadblocks.
