Bubbles Beyond Borders: A chance for change
Celebrating its first birthday, the campaign went bigger than last year with the theme, Bubbles Beyond Borders - Empowerment Fair.
August is Women’s Month, dedicated to celebrate the role women and girls play in society.
However, gender inequality is still rife in certain communities.
Taking a stand against discrimination against women and girls, Leave No Girl Behind International (LNGBI) was formed by sisters, Haseena and Shameema Patel.
Focusing on empowering girls, they dedicate themselves in their community through various projects.
One such project is the Bubbles Beyond Borders campaign, which they launched in 2014, uniting girls, women, boys and men in the common cause of assisting girls reach their full potential.
Last Saturday, the Bubbles Beyond Borders was held at St Dominics Academy.
Celebrating its first birthday, the campaign went bigger than last year with the theme, Bubbles Beyond Borders – Empowerment Fair.
Dialogues, songs, dances and speeches, as well as a small market advocated the message to empower women and girls in our community.
“There are women and girls who can’t decide what they want to wear or who are not allowed to drive. It is therefore important to support girls’ and women’s dreams and rights,” explained Haseena.
After the speeches and activities, guests blew bubbles in support of gender equality.
