Spinners make history at Northern Natal Motorsport challenge
Spinners made history during a day of racing.
Northern Natal Motorsport’s (NNM) Midas Intercity Challenge proved to be an unforgettable day of racing, family entertainment, community spirit and motorsport history, according to event organiser, Razia Cassim.
Motorsport enthusiasts, families, competitors and visitors gathered for the much-anticipated battle between Glenwood Raceway (Nelspruit) and Northern Natal Motorsport (Newcastle) on October 3.
“The engines roared, the dust flew, the crowds cheered, and Newcastle once again proved that its passion for motorsport is alive and growing. With perfect weather, an enthusiastic crowd and a full programme of racing entertainment, the event was a tremendous success for NNM and the wider motorsport community,” said Cassim.
Cassim said the biggest highlight of the event was the historic first-time appearance of spinners to an NNM event, with spinning cars competing on the oval track alongside the oval racers.
The Northern Natal Motorsport Spinners and the 360 Boys from Dundee, brought their own brand of entertainment to the raceway, creating a unique racing scene that delighted spectators.
“It was a memorable moment for the venue and its supporters, demonstrating how motorsport can continue to evolve, introduce new experiences and bring different disciplines together,” Cassim continued.
“The InterCity Challenge also brought competitors from different towns and regions together. Some travelled considerable distances at considerable expense, yet still made the effort to be part of the occasion. That commitment speaks volumes about the dedication of our racing community.”
Cassim went on to extend a special welcome to Thinus Reynecke, who joined NMM from Ladysmith as a first-time racer and the club’s newest member.
“The Kiddies Scooter Race was another outstanding highlight, attracting our largest field of young participants yet,” Cassim added.
“With children ranging from approximately 18 months to 10 years old, the race showcased the enthusiasm, courage and excitement of our youngest motorsport fans. Watching these little champions take to the track, some of them experiencing the thrill of organised racing for the very first time, was a reminder that the future of motorsport begins with opportunities for children to participate, have fun and feel included.”
“An event of this scale cannot happen through the efforts of the organisers alone. Behind every successful race meeting is a network of businesses, sponsors and supporters who contribute their time, services, resources and financial assistance. Your support helps us maintain our facilities, host events, provide opportunities for competitors and families, and continue building the NNM Raceway into a venue that Newcastle can be proud,” she concluded
