Man hangs himself from electricity pylon

A man hanged himself this evening (Wednesday) from an electricity pylon in Steadville, behind Steadville High School.

It is alleged that the man, who was about 25 years of age, climbed up the electricity pylon and hanged himself using truck tie-downs.

Passersby spotted the suicide victim hanging almost 15 metres in the air, and contacted police.

Public Safety and police responded to the scene, and a large crowd of residents from the area gathered to see what was going on.

An inquest into the hanging will be opened by police.
