Identifying small species at Ingula

10 small mammalian species have been identified across the three sites

As part of an Ingula Partnership initiative, Robin Colyn is continuing with small mammal surveys across three grassland sites at Ingula.

The survey forms part of a meso-carnivore prey diversity and abundance study, which aims to determine the availability of small vertebrate prey items across different habitat types to appropriate carnivore guilds such as raptors.

Thus far, 10 small mammalian species have been identified across the three sites, including interesting captures of shrews such as the Greater Red Musk Shrew (weighing 40g) through to the Lesser Dwarf Shrew (weighing only 4g).
