Two men were found guilty of the murder of a 20 year-old woman living with albinism at the Vryheid Magistrates Court yesterday.

The two Mandla Mavuso and Lindokuhle Khumalo pleaded guilty to the murder of 20-year-old Thandazile Mpunzi and were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.

Four suspects (including a pastor and a minor) were arrested after the young woman’s mutilated body was found in a shallow grave last month. The pastor pleaded not guilty to the murder.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson in KwaZulu-Natal Natasha Kara said that the sentence would send a strong message to criminals.

“They were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment each. The NPA especially the director of public prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal welcomes the sentence and also it serve as the warning to will-be criminals that crime especially killing of other individuals in such a harsh way will not be tolerated.”

It is alleged that Thandazile was murdered for her body parts
