Car washing in public parking raises tempers

Parking blues continue to impact on business....

The washing of cars in public parking bays outside Model Butchery on Victoria Street is causing more angst today.

The parking issue in this part of town, outside the Umzinyathi head office, has seriously effected business, says Butch Kassier of the long-established family butchery.

The Kassiers have fought along – and largely unsuccessful battle – against cars that are parked in front of their shop, on the pavement and in the loading zone.

“Some cars are sold from the parking bays.  Others even park on the pavement.  Customers cannot get to our shop and therefore drive elsewhere to buy meat,” Mr Kassier told the Courier.

The installing of ‘reserved parking bays’ from Umzinyathi officials as not helped either.  While Mr Kassier says the traffic department has largely been sympathetic a more ‘direct approach is needed’ if his business is to be rescued.

“How come some people can park how they want to while others must obey the law? That is my only question?’
