Update: Manhunt continues for escaped convict

He managed to elude officers and disappeared within a matter of seconds

Shortly after 1pm, a suspect facing charges of business robbery managed to escape from Ladysmith Correctional Services.

Nkosingiphile Cyprian Mbatha (23) was remanded into the custody of Correctional Services and was being transported there by police when the incident occurred.

He managed to elude officers and disappeared within a matter of seconds.

A massive manhunt was immediately launched, with the K9 Unit and other units combing Hospital Park for the fleeing suspect.

The suspect is described as wearing a red T-shirt and blue overall trousers at the time of his escape. He is of medium height and build, with a light complexion.

He is considered dangerous and the public are warned not to try and apprehend him, but to rather contact the nearest police station on 10111 or Crime Stop on 08600-10111.
