ON THURSDAY, September 10, the Grade 5 and 6 students grabbed their aprons and knives and headed down to the kitchen.
Each year they are given a certain topic which they have to research and write about in the form of a project. This wonderful evening took place in the Michaelis Hall and was attended by a crowd of enthusiastic parents. One of the aims of this evening is to improve the public speaking abilities of the students. They also learned about the importance of a deadline, how to research a topic and present a PowerPoint Slide Show.
“Put twenty children in a busy kitchen armed with knives and potato peelers and it could become quite a dangerous situation,” quoted the 2014 Master of Ceremony, Leah Vonkeman.
The learners were divided into four groups that morning and each group had a task to do, whether it was to set the coffee table or to prepare the cheese spread – they had to do it!
The parents were impressed by the children’s wonderful speeches and by the food as well. They enjoyed themselves and so did the students. The evening was a success and everyone left with a smile on their face. A big thank you goes to Mrs Niebuhr and Mr van der Walt who made this evening possible. Written by Awande Mbuli Grade 6.
Cricket: The u/13 cricket team played against NRS last week. They batted first and made 142 runs for 3. Congratulations to Joshua Stride who made 72 runs. Michaelis managed to get 100 for 8 in 20 overs. Our best batsman was Cameron Aitken who made 44 runs.
The u/11 cricket team continued with their impressive runs this season when they played against NRS on Monday, beating them. The best batsman was Mpumelelo Mazibuko with 21 runs and best bowler was Mohammed Khan with 2 wickets for 7 runs.
Reghan Elliot and Mpumelelo Mazibuko took part in the u/11 Inland Cricket Trials on Saturday and we would like to congratulate both these boys for being included in the KZN Inland Team.
