Melmoth road closed as protesters rampage

Motorists travelling from Vryheid through Melmoth are advised to seek alternative routes as the Main road in Melmoth is currently closed due to protests.

The Zululand Observer reports that the large group of protesters are rampaging through Melmoth, burning tires and looting shops.

It is alleged that the mob cleaned out the KFC on Main Road and are now looting foreign owned shops.

It is said that the protestors are marching against unemployment, the water crisis in the uThungulu district and crime in Melmoth.

The police are working hard to keep the situation under control and have had to call for back-up.
