Vryheid High School – A tribute to Margaret and Ayanda
You can choose to be a chicken and spend your life scrounging around on the ground, never using your wings. Or you can become an eagle spreading your wings and soaring high above majestic mountains.
IT WAS with great sadness and shock that we received the bad news that Mrs Margaret Mdlalose and Ayanda Mchunu passed away in an accident on Sunday, October 25.
Just 3 months ago we reported on Margaret going on pension after many years of dedicated service. She will be remembered as a loyal and sincere worker who brightened people’s days with her friendliness and odd jokes.
Ayanda Mchunu was her granddaughter and in Grade 8E Co in VHS. Her classmates wrote tributes to her and the general consensus was that she was a positive, compassionate, kind young girl who inspired those around her with her enthusiasm. Our sincere condolences to their family and friends. We trust you will find solace in your faith.
This year is nearing its end with the final examinations for all grades beginning officially on November 2. Now is the time for all learners to give account of what they learned this year. One of our previous headmasters, Mr P Noomé, used to tell a story of the chicken and the eagle. The moral of the story was that you have a choice to be a chicken or an eagle. You can choose to be a chicken and spend your life scrounging around on the ground, never using your wings. Or you can become an eagle spreading your wings and soaring high above majestic mountains. While learning for these exams we encourage learners to strive to be like an eagle and do their very best.
We look forward to upholding the five values adopted this year: compassion, integrity, responsibility, respect and excellence in 2016. So, to all the learners, begin now by applying responsibility and striving for excellence.
