Chasing security guards opened fire, shooting him dead

A vendor who, according to eyewitnesses, sold cakes and other foodstuffs illegally at the Ezakheni Plaza was allegedly shot dead by security guards working for the mall on Friday evening.

The man, who had been told repeatedly to stop selling his wares at the mall, was allegedly being chased away by the guards when one of them allegedly shot him in the chest.

Police have confirmed that a 31-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting of an unidentified man. A licensed firearm and several spent cartridges were recovered at the scene.

Ezakheni detectives are investigating a case of murder.
