DHS knits teddies for kiddies

The teddy knitting fever even extended to close family and friends who started sending more and more bears to the school.

A few months ago, Mrs Raffenberg decided to start an initiative in aid of orphans in our area.
So many children do not have the privilege of owning their own teddy bear or any toy for that matter.
Her passion spread through the staff-room and it soon became a fun and quick way to spend an evening or afternoon and before long, we ran out of space to keep all the teddy bears.
The teddy knitting fever even extended to close family and friends who started sending more and more bears to the school.
The younger staff members and learners finally realised the beauty of knitting and spending much needed quality time with grandmothers who have a wealth of knowledge and skills waiting to be relayed to young minds.
As the teddy bears are still rolling in, Mrs Raffenberg organised to have the teddies dropped off at orphanages around our area.
By doing something small, they were all able to contribute to a child receiving a very special teddy that was handmade with a lot of love and care. We urge you to become involved in this initiative next year as we anticipate it becoming much bigger each year. Every child deserves to feel loved.

On Saturday, November 21, the hiking club under the guidance of Mrs Raffenberg, went to the Central Drakensberg for a quick hike to celebrate the end of yet another successful year.
The learners could see Cathkin Peak from their hiking trail and were able to have a swim in the fresh water pools that are fed by beautiful waterfalls.
It is an amazing privilege to experience the beauty and splendour of our country’s nature with young and enthusiastic learners.
