The Ichthus Grade R class enjoys outing fun

Ichthus Grade R learners enjoyed a year jammed packed with outings to various businesses and industries in and around Dundee.

The first outing was to the SPCA. All the learners collected pet food the week before their visit, which they were more than happy to donate to the SPCA. A few learners left very emotional after seeing all the abandoned animals.
An outing to the Fire Brigade was definitely a favourite, with everyone having an opportunity to dress up in the fireman’s suit and “drive” the fire engine!
All the learners enjoyed the outing to the toilet paper factory.
They have been using the toilet paper off cuts which they received for their arts and crafts throughout the year.
The library opened up their minds to the enjoyment that books and reading can bring to their lives.

Learning about paper and printing was made fun at RA Burns & Co. Seeing the blank paper being fed through the giant machines and coming out the other side, printed, was very interesting. The highlight of the outing was watching the forklift move a 400 kg reel of paper.

At AfriTan Tannery, everyone learnt how hides are treated and tanned to produce beautiful carpets, pillows and curios.

A trip to the dentist is usually worrying for any child, but the Ichthus Grade R learners took it in their stride. Sitting in the dentist chair and opening wide for the dentist to take a look was a breeze.
Spur was a great way to end off the week, last week. Every learner had the opportunity to look through the menu and order their own food and drinks.
The final outing of the year will be to the Agricultural sale yards on Thursday.

Everyone is looking forward to seeing all the animals which will be on auction.
