Overcharged customer advises ‘scrutinise your till slip’
We were overcharged almost R100 for four items

How often do you verify that the price you pay at the till is the price that appears on the supermarket shelf?
Well, one Estcourt resident will be doing this more frequently after he was charged close to R100 extra during a recent trip to a supermarket.
The resident explains: “I went shopping last Wednesday and purchased groceries to the value of just over R1 000. When we were at the till, we noticed that the prices on the shelf and that which scanned at the till were different. We were overcharged almost R100 for four items.”
The resident immediately queried the difference and brought it to the attention of the store manager, but this, he claims, was met with indifference and abusive words.
“The manager was very abusive and threatened to assault me when I questioned him about the overcharging. He also instructed his security not to allow me back into the store and said he was practicing his ‘right to admission’. I have now taken this up with the head office but they don’t seem interested either,” said the resident.
This incident has taught the resident to always be aware of prices and to examine his till slip.
“How many of us actually scrutinise our till slips? Not many because we sometimes make too many purchases that it becomes impossible to keep track of every slip but residents must make this a regular practice,” advises the reader.
