Police nab two after brutal Wasbank murder

The man was stabbed four times and died on the scene

Swift police action resulted in the arrest of two men who followed and stabbed to death a 28-year-old man in Wasbank last Thursday.

Police said the victim, who was not named, was at the Wasbank Hotel and unbeknown to him, there were other men on the premises plotting to rob him as they believed he had money on him.

When the man left the hotel, he walked in the direction of Ibusi Village and was followed by the four men. Two of the four backed out and returned to the hotel.
The remaining two continued following him and later attacked him, robbing him of his cellphone.

The man was stabbed four times and died on the scene. A manhunt was launched and a joint operation held involving members of the Wasbank police, Glencoe K9 Unit and Glencoe Stocktheft Unit.

Both men were arrested shortly afterwards. The stolen cellphone and the knife used in the stabbing were recovered.

Both accused appeared in Court on Monday and members of the Wabank community expressed their outrage over the murder.

Detective Warrant Officer Wayne Bezuidenhout thanked all police members involved in bringing the culprits to book.
