A fourteen-year-old boy was caught selling ‘space cakes’ (baked muffins laced with dagga) at Ethangeni School this morning.

An alert teacher patrolling the school boundary fence during first break saw the boy selling the cakes and his suspicions were immediately raised.

The boy was taken to the principal, Leonard Botha’s office, who in turn called the boy’s parents.

“We understand the boy was given the cakes to sell at school by an out-of-school sibling who has a  friend here.”

Four of the six cakes in the boy’s box had already been sold – for R4 each – by the time the teacher caught him.

The police have also been alerted.  The space cake problem has been identified at Dundee Secondary School but this is the first time the contraband has been found at Ethangeni.
