Mayor’s son in hospital after shooting

One of the men sustained a fatal gunshot wound

Gun-wielding thugs opened fire on a group of men on Saturday evening in Ezakheni E-Section.

Mayor Vincent Madlala’s son was one of the five men who were shot at. The group of men were seated outside a shop near Mpandla Stores when they came under attack.

According to police, it is believed that the gunmen used a rifle and handguns. Multiple gunshots were fired.

One of the men sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The mayor’s son was injured and taken to hospital. The other men reportedly escaped injury.

Community members from E-Section spotted Mayor Madlala visiting the crime scene on Sunday.

The spokesperson of Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality confirmed that one of the victims is the mayor’s son and that he is in a stable condition in hospital. The mayor declined to comment further, as the case is being investigated by the SAPS. Therefore, the mayor cannot comment on a criminal matter that is still under investigation.

Ezakheni detectives are investigating a case of murder. At this stage, the motive of the shooting is unclear.

The deceased has been identified as Anele Hadebe (24).
