Local parents who have children at the University of Pretoria should know that classes have been suspended at the  Hatfield campus.

This follows on going protests at the institution over the use of Afrikaans.

The University of Pretoria (UP) proposed on Monday that all its lectures be offered in English.

The university said in a statement on its Facebook page it wished to clarify that the proposed way forward on the language policy was that all lectures be offered in English only.

“To promote multilingualism and student success it is proposed that Afrikaans and Sepedi be used to provide additional support to students,” it said.
