Leap-Day: WhatsApp dumps cheap budget phones
The end of support for BlackBerry, Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1 and 2.2, and Windows Phone 7.1

Talk about getting a Leap Day kick in the teeth… Well, for cheap budget phones, the WhatsApp honeymoon is soon to come to an end. WhatsApp has decided to end support for all BlackBerry devices by the end of the year.
Yes, 2016 marks the end of support for BlackBerry, Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1 and 2.2, and Windows Phone 7.1
Blackberry 10, the supposed saviour of the ailing smartphone giant, will also lose WhatsApp support.
The devices “don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future,” the WhatsApp post says. “This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family and loved ones using WhatsApp.”
So upgrade your device or face being dumped.
The Facebook-owned messaging app has more than 1 billion downloads on Android phones alone. 10 billion messages are sent through it every day.
Expect #WhatsappBlackberrySplit to be trending until the lights go out on all those old feature phone devices.
