Shortage of dogs at K9 Unit

The unit only has 7 patrol dogs and one explosives dogs at this time, leaving officers without a ‘partner’

The Ladysmith K9 Unit is appealing to the community for dogs.

This is a matter of urgency, as the unit only has 7 patrol dogs and one explosives dogs at this time, leaving officers without a ‘partner’. The breeds ideally required are Rottweilers and German Shepherds.

The dogs must be under 3 years old and must be thoroughbreds.

They will be put through a small training programme and should they not pass, they will be returned to their owners.

To those people out there who own these breed of dogs, you are urged to donate one to the Ladysmith K9 Unit. In doing so, you will be helping to combat crime in and around town.

Police have recently noted an increase in armed robberies, shootings and house break-ins in town and you will be going a long way towards stamping out this kind of opportunistic crime.

For more information, contact Captain Hlongwane on 079-514-5083 or Warrant Officer Steenkamp on 082-780-2487.
