LANCASTER Lodge provided the exquisite setting for the Vryheid Tourism Annual General Meeting.

On March 23, local business owners in the tourism industry gathered for the association’s 18th AGM, where a new committee was elected and several key issues were addressed.

AbaQulusi Municipality’s Director of Development and Planning, Dalisu Zulu was in attendance and addressed guests regarding the role of the tourism industry in Vryheid, encouraging them to work together to make AbaQulusi the preferred holiday destination, touching on the fact that, in recent years, the industry has “grown from strength to strength.”

“Make our town shine!” he enthused, declaring with pride the nomination of Vryheid as town of the year.

Annalize Vorster, who sadly stepped down as President of Vryheid Tourism for the election of the new committee for 2016, gave a heartfelt and emotional final speech, congratulating establishments in Vryheid on their high standards and encouraging them to keep up the good work.

“Thank you to all our product holders,” she said proudly, “Keep up the good work. To our local municipality, thank you for your continued support.”

Turning to her trusty right hand, Secretary, Alet Swanepoel, Annalize continued, “Alet, thank you very much for all the hard work you do to keep our association going. Thank you for your assistance and friendliness and always being prepared to help us.”

“Our committee members of the past year, thank you for your input and support. This has been my last report as your President,” she added with a tear in her eye. “It has been an honour to serve you for the last seven years and a pleasure to work with every one of you. I will surely miss our interactions.”

Addressing the capable and worthy newly elected and President, Isobel Van Der Colff, Annalize concluded, “To the new President, I wish you all of the best. You are inheriting a great bunch of tourism friends. I wish you all the success for your new role,” adding affectionately, ” I will only be a phone call away, should you need my help.”

The evening continued with a presentation by the charismatic and captivating “Pied Piper” of the Battlefields, Pam McFadden, whose enchanting demeanour brings history alive.

The presentation was followed by a delicious dinner, prepared by Ria De Bruyn of Andrea’s B&B.
