Community whip thief to death with sjambok

Police urge people not to take the law into their own hands

A burglar felt the full might of mob justice after trying to break into a home at Jersey Farm, Dannhauser.

Xolani Ndlovu was chased by angry community members, after a woman in the house he was robbing, screamed for help. The community members chased him into an open veld where they assaulted him with a sjambok.

The following morning her was found already dead by police. One person was arrested and charged. An investigation is underway into the matter.

Dannhauser Police Communications Officer, Sergeant Nyembe, urged communities to let the police deal with criminals.

“We as the police condemn such action where the community take the law into their own hands. Yes indeed they can assist the police to catch suspects and hand them over to us but not punish them themselves ” Sgt Nyembe said.
