Poster war hots up as political parties enter election mode

The DA has accused the ANC of disregarding the by-laws after political posters were pasted on buildings, litter bins and in public spaces in the Glencoe area during the last voter registration drive.
Hannah Winckler, of the DA in KZN, said in a statement that the posters were put up during the night before the April 9 voting registration.
“The ANC did not follow protocol in applying for and paying for these last-minute registration posters.
“The ANC has, once again, demonstrated that they have no concern for the rule of law. The local leadership should not blame the activists for their actions when they were meant to play an oversight role which was sorely lacking.”
The DA has requested that the Endumeni Municipality apply its by-laws equally, levelling the playing field, and charging the ANC the fee, which is applicable to all for elevating posters on billboards, light poles, and other spaces.
“The ANC cannot continue to hold itself above the law. The DA respects the rule of law and will strive to uphold the law in all it its activities using the principles of freedom, fairness and opportunity.”

In response, Thulani Mahaye, the ANC’s head of communications in the Inkosi Bambatha regin, said: “We have followed through on the complaint and have learnt that the posters were pasted very late on the Friday night (April 8) and we will ensure that in future our volunteers follow proper procedures. The DA in ward 7 did bring this information to the attention of our comrades in the ward. We, however, point out that if the complaint relates specifically to the ANC posters, then the DA is being selective and seemingly targeting the ANC. Posters of other parties have also been pasted on substations and yet it is only the ANC posters which were referred to the media.
