Three arrested for setting security guard’s vehicle alight

The guards fled in the vehicle to the police station for assistance and after stopping their vehicle near the police station

On May 1 sometime after midnight four security guards were attacked by a group of people in the Bergville area. From information currently available, it is alleged that the group stoned the security vehicle and assaulted the guards.

The motive for the incident is as yet still unclear. The guards fled in the vehicle to the police station for assistance and after stopping their vehicle near the police station, four assailants then set the vehicle alight.

Bergville police subsequently intervened and arrested three of the four suspects.The suspects, two aged 22 and one aged 26, are set to appear in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court today on charges of malicious damage to property.

Police are still looking for the fourth suspect.
