Awareness march touches heart of Sibongile

Endumeni Mayor Mahaye, the police, church leaders and the different departments have pledged to be in the forefront of the fight against the social ills the community faces.

An awareness march to create much-needed awareness about human trafficking, kidnapping, rape and other social ills was a great success at Sibongile yesterday.

Learners from Livangeli Primary School as well as church leaders, Dundee SAPS and different government departments came together to make their voices about the plight that is faced by the Sibongile community.

This comes after the recent kidnapping and gruesome murder of Banele Ndlela-Phungula that left the community reeling.

Police and their constituents stressed the importance of being aware of your surroundings and not speaking to strangers. “Always tell someone you trust where you are going and for how long,” stressed Captain Mbense, SAPS Communication Officer.

The Department of Health made the community aware of the different services they offer to the community especially after suffering a traumatic event. “Do not look away when someone is suffering, report the matter immediately,” said a representative of the department.
