Members from the Hawks, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Provincial Taxi Task Team and National Intervention Unit arrested six most wanted suspects last Friday.

The suspects were sought for taxi related murders committed in Weenen, Bergville and Nongoma in January this year. In Weenen, the suspects allegedly shot at a minibus where two people were fatally wounded and two others were seriously injured.

Members swooped in at the Mansfield Hostel where suspects were in hiding. They were found in possession of four unlicensed firearms including an AK47, two shotguns, one 9mm pistol and 21 assorted live rounds of ammunition.

They appeared in the Moroka Magistrate’s Court on May 3 for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the commission of crime.

They will further appear in the Weenen Magistrate’s Court facing charges of murder and attempted murder. On the same day, members further arrested two other wanted suspects who were wanted for murders, which happened in Bergville taxi rank and Nongoma taxi rank in January 2016. They appeared in different courts on May 3.
