Experts yesterday conducted a reconstruction of the accident.

The woman driver of the Fortuner that struck a Corsa on the Glencoe by-pass on Sunday afternoon, that resulted in the death of three-month-old Ella Klenyhans  could face a charge of culpable homicide.

Daryn Klenyhans and Kayleigh Page were travelling back to Howick after visiting Kayleigh’s parents and grandparents in Dundee when tragedy struck at around 3pm.

Witnesses said the woman driver went through the stop-street on the by-pass and struck the Corsa.  Little Ella, who was on the backseat with Kayleigh at the time, suffered head injuries.

A passing motorist from Nottingham Road, Johann van de Merwe, rushed the baby to hospital.  Despite a valiant attempt  by medical staff, Ella succumbed to her injuries an hour later.

The accident has re-ignited calls for a traffic light or other traffic calming methods at the Uithoek/by-pass intersection which has seen many accidents in the recent years.

Experts yesterday conducted a reconstruction of the accident.  One a docket has been completed, this will be handed to the Director of Public Prosecutions on a decision to prosecute the driver or not.
