Rapist sentenced to four life terms

Dundee FCS commended for putting rapist behind bars

A notorious rapist has been put behind bars for four life terms and 45 years for eight counts of rape and kidnapping.
Zamani Percivale Radebe (24) had been terrorising women in the area from 2009 and evaded arrest for many years.
His main targets were women walking home from taverns. Numerous cases of rape were opened and handed to the Dundee Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. In November 2015, a police investigation led detectives to a construction site in Dundee where Zamani was apprehended. DNA results linked Zamani to the crimes and brought his reign of terror to an end.
He appeared in court numerous times before he was eventually sentenced. KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, welcomed the heavy sentence handed down to Zamani.
“This will send a strong message to other criminals who are raping women in our province. I would like to thank Dundee FCS for their effort to ensure that he was prosecuted,” she said.
Captain Fuller, Commander of the Dundee FCS Unit, expressed her intense pride in her members and gave a special word of thanks to the Investigating Officer, Warrant Officer Khambule, for ensuring that the dockets were thorough and complete. He worked tirelessly to apprehend the accused and he is commended for his dedication.
“We hope that the victims will now find closure and that Mr Radebe has remorse for the heinous acts that he had committed,” she said.
