Nursing staff around the world celebrated International Nurses’ Day on Thursday, May 12. The day is observed on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.

Florence Nightingale was the founder of modern nursing.

Nurses from the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) commemorated the day the only way they know how; by collecting donated pints of blood that will save lives, which formed part of their monthly visit to town.

The SANBS team ensures that individuals in need of blood receive blood and that the safety of blood is maintained, which makes it possible to collect sufficient safe blood to meet the demand.

In case of an emergency, quality blood is available for patients. We hope everyone in this special profession had a special day, continue saving and bettering lives.
