Police suspect that she was raped, chopped with a bush knife and then murdered

The court has remanded in custody, the man arrested in connection with the murder of Nqobile Mabaso.

The man (25) made his first appearance on Monday, May 16. The man was arrested after he was found in possession of Nqobile’s cell phone.
This murder case stirred up a storm on Saturday, May 14 when the 28-year-old’s body was discovered by her father in an abandoned silo on a farm near Balgowan in Nottingham Road.

Nqobile was last seen on the farm alive by the farm manager at about 9.30pm the previous evening, May 13. It is believed that she wanted to show him evidence regarding theft, which took place on a neighbouring farm earlier that week.

The deceased sustained an open wound to the back of her head and various marks on her body. She also sustained visible injuries to her face and was bleeding from her nose.

Police suspect that she was raped, chopped with a bush knife and then murdered. Her body was thrown into the unused silo.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded police on apprehending the suspect.

“We will make sure that the accused is prosecuted for his crimes so that he can spend his life in prison,” she said.
