A potentially disruptive weather system, due to make landfall in the Western Cape (WC) late on Thursday night, could bring snow with it, says snow-following facebook site Snow Report.

Even without actual snow landing, a cold spell is predicted.

If the system remains on course, the first snow should fall in the WC on Friday morning over the high peaks. Only light snow is expected in the WC. By Friday afternoon, light snow will continue in the WC over the high peaks. 

By sunrise on Saturday, most of the Easern Cape (EC) high ground will have snow on it, with some areas around Rhodes possibly getting up to 25cm on the high ground, and snow may also be present on the Southern KZN Drakensberg and the KZN high ground around Kokstad.

As Saturday progresses, the system will move further into KZN and Lesotho, with some good falls of up to 25cm being possible in the Sani Pass area, with the snow coming down into Drakensberg towns like Underberg.

The snow may also stretch into the KZN Midlands during Saturday morning and into the afternoon. By Saturday night, most falls will be over the EC Drakensberg, the KZN Drakensberg (South, Central and North) and into the Free State in the Harrismith area. All snow activity will cease during the early hours of Sunday morning.
