Fundraising for 10-year-old Duncan Vermeulen has gotten off to a fantastic start with R7 700 being raised in the past week.
Uberdent dentist, Hanco Blignaut, hopes to raise R50 000 for Duncan, who was born with cerebral palsy and has been unable to walk unassisted.
The money raised will go towards an operation that Duncan must undergo on August 5 that promises major improvement in his walking ability, and will also assist with vital aftercare that Duncan will need for maximum mobility, independence and quality of life.
Duncan is a cheerful, bright child who dreams of being able to run with his brother and kick a ball someday soon. To be inspired by Duncan’s story and learn more about how you can help Duncan walk watch his amazing video HERE.
As part of the fundraiser, there will be a giant tooth moving around contributing businesses. Contributors are urged to stick business cards or advertisements on it, or write on it. Vryheid Herald will cover all contributions, and challenges. There has already been a very positive response from businesses in Vryheid, and many vouchers and cash gifts have been raised for participants, which will be awarded weekly. Uberdent will be happy to give one participating business five free consultations for employees including a scale and polish, and x-rays if needed, and, to another business, a free tooth bleaching treatment valued at R2 800.
Other prizes up for grabs include a family shoot to the value of R600 from Rizanne Gevers Photography, a Gary’s Garden Centre voucher, two wash and vacuum vouchers from Bubble Car Wash, pork to the value of R1 800 from Stephan Ferreira, two braai utencil holders made from wood by Stephan Ferreira, two CNA vouchers valued at R100 each, and two Clicks vouchers valued at R100 each.
