Administration from the glass towers

The new rates hall is already functioning, and boasts a new ticket-call system.

NEWCASTLE – Municipal departments have begun moving into the new Tower Block on Murchison Street.

The announcement of the relocation from the Civic Centre, was made late last week on the municipal website and Facebook.

The following departments have already moved:

– The offices of the Municipal Manager, plus Legal Services, Executive Support and Special Programmes are on the seventh floor.

– The sixth floor houses the departments of Internal Audit, Information Communication, and Technology and Performance Management.

– A portion of Budget and Treasury, plus the Chief Financial Officer are on floor three.

– Floor two is where one will find Technical Services and the remainder of Budget and Treasury.

Most important to residents, is the location of the Cashier, Enquiries and Public Participation offices, on the first floor (reached from the top parking level).

The new rates hall is already functioning, and boasts a new ticket-call system.

Still to move across from the Civic Centre are the departments of Development Planning and Human Settlements, Corporate Services, Town Planning and Technical Services.

The Strategic Executive Director of Community Services will also be relocated in time.

“While the public parking is under completion, we kindly request community members make use of the available parking, in the open area between the library and the clinic, and other alternative parking,” the notice read. “We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.”
