Future Springboks in our midst?

The results from the District Skills Assessment are forwarded to Bowls South Africa, so we could have future Springboks in our midst

This past weekend saw the start of the Men’s Club Fours and this will be continued during July. On Sunday, quite a few of our members went to Colenso to play in the Pete Evertse Tournament and did very well. Barbara Baleri played with the sponsors, James and John, and they managed to win the tournament. Second were Bob Corringham, Gavin Moore and Des Maartens; and third Trevor Kirsten, Lorraine Kirsten and Zelda Wood. Very well done to you all!

I was away over the weekend, but managed to pop into Colenso on Sunday to see the start of the final game. The bowlers had just come back from eating a very nice lunch supplied by Colenso Bowling Club, and they had lovely weather in which to play this tournament. It was also nice to see Rose and Corné Stevens with Greg Beveridge enjoying the bowls, as Rose is family to the sponsors. It was super to see them enjoying the day and fellowship. Maybe some new bowlers in the offing?

As I mentioned last week, VJ Singh and Liefie Oosthuizen went to Pietermaritzburg to attend the District Skills Assessment.
This is quite an honour, as the District puts your name forward to attend, so you must know that your record has been noticed and all your hard work has not been for nothing. The results from this assessment are forwarded to Bowls South Africa, so we could have future Springboks in our midst. We do hope that these two bowlers enjoyed the experience and achieved the results they aimed for!

This weekend sees our Senior Fours ladies and men travel to Pongola for the play-offs. We wish them all the very best and are sure they will come back with the Midlands flag flying high, as well as the trophies!

Celebrating birthdays in July are: Magriet Coetzee, Ian Charlton, Graham Elworthy, Grace Mitchell, Jimmy Nel, Eric Robinson and Charmaine van der Merwe. May you all have a wonderful year ahead!
