ANC ward candidate shot inside his home
Mr Mazibuko played dead as he lay in a pool of blood, and the gunmen stopped shooting
An ANC ward candidate is fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in hospital after being gunned down inside his house in the Peacetown area on Wednesday night.
Ward 15 candidate Mr David Mazibuko was surprised by unknown gunmen who opened fire on him in his home.
It is believed that after being hit by bullets, Mr Mazibuko attempted to get away from his attackers. However, they continued firing in his direction. Mr Mazibuko played dead as he lay in a pool of blood, and the gunmen stopped shooting.
The attackers then stole a set of car keys before fleeing the scene in a BMW.
According to neighbours, they heard gunshots going off, one after the other. “It sounded like a Wild West shoot-out! They were obviously making sure the job was done!” exclaimed a resident who lives nearby.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and stabilized Mr Mazibuko before transporting him to hospital.
The shooting has sent shock waves throughout the community.
Mr Mazibuko is described as a polite gentleman with a big heart and always there to help others.
The motive for the shooting is unclear at this stage. Cases of carjacking and attempted murder are being investigated by detectives from the Hawks.
