Sewage causes a stench in Allen Street
A leaking sewerage manhole has left residents holding their noses up in disgust.
CBD – The overwhelming stench of sewage pollutes the air, as waste gurgles out of a sewerage manhole on Allen Street, at the entrance of a fast food outlet.

A concerned resident, who opted to remain anonymous, said she worked close by and had reported the matter to the municipality several times.
“It leaks every two weeks or so, and the smell is terrible. What is most concerning, is people have to walk through the waste to enter businesses situated near the leak and it is unhygienic.
“It is also disturbing to see sewage leaking into the stormwater drain, which means it will go into our drinking water supply,” she said.
She claimed the municipality would come out to attend to the problem when reported, but it would simply reoccur.

“Something needs to be done about the situation,” she said.
The municipality’s communication department was contacted for comment, but no official statement was forthcoming at the time of going to print.
