MEC officially opens public transport facility

The newly appointed KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Community Safety and Liaison Mxolisi Kaunda officially handed over the new Umtshezi Public Transport Facility (taxi rank) to the Mayor of uMtshezi Municipality Bongani Dlamini last week.
Mr Kaunda said the intermodal facility is the first of its kind in the province, which will cater for more than 350 taxis, including 15 buses on the lower and upper levels.
This facility has modernised public toilets, which also accommodates the physically disabled. More than 400 hawkers also have their own spaces.
All long-distance taxis are on the upper floor and there are holding bays for those waiting to load passengers.
The MEC was excited that uMtshezi Municipality has managed to harmonise the situation between the two taxi associations Amangwe-Bhekuzulu and Estcourt, which have separate offices, board rooms, kitchens, secretaries and chairpersons offices.
He urged the people of uMtshezi to take good care of the facility.
