The purpose of this visit was the sod turning ceremony of P179 gravel road, which will now be tarred and links Ennersdale to Wembezi township

Imbabazane and  local municipalities are currently finalising their merger processes and most of the events by both municipalities are now held in unison.

Since service delivery has been the name of the game, these municipalities are busy handing over projects that have been constructed in order to change the lives of the people for the better.

To cement and officiate these service delivery initiatives both municipalities were visited by the new MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mxolisi Kaunda on July 5.

The purpose of this visit was the sod turning ceremony of P179 gravel road, which will now be tarred and links Ennersdale to Wembezi township and the Ncibidwane River Bridge in Hlathikhulu Ward one.

This was then followed by the official opening of the uMtshezi Public Transport Facility, hailed as one of the best in the province.

The main event was at the Wembezi Stadium, where MEC Kaunda addressed the community of Imbabazane and Umtshezi local municipalities.

The Mayor of Umtshezi Bongani Dlamini and the Mayor of Imbabazane Phindile Strydom were part of this event.
People in attendance were overjoyed to see and hear that both municipalities have made progress in fast tracking service delivery.

Amid the dignitaries present were councillors from uMtshezi and Imbabazane local municipalities, Induna YeNkosi Mr S Zamisa, Mr L Zulu the chairperson of community policing youth desk, Mr M Mbambo (PTPA) KZN provincial chairperson, Mr V Msomi, Community Police Forum Chairperson, Mr T Zuma (KZNCCPA) Provincial chairperson, Mr BB Zondi from (Santaco).

MEC Kaunda said the Transport Department is there to make sure that public transport facilities are safe and secure areas, with dignity for all passengers and associations. He then urged the community to take care of the intermodal facility, stressing that it must be kept clean and safe.

He added that the P179 road that links Ennersdale and Wembezi township, will now shorten the distance from Loskop to Ntabamhlophe and Wembezi, thus saving costs and time.

The Ncibidwane River Bridge that will be upgraded in Emahendeni (Ward two) will help to link Ward One and Ward two.  In conclusion, the MEC urged the community to peacefully observe the elections process on August 3.
