IF your water meter has been stolen and you’re waiting for AbaQulusi Municipality to replace it, you may be bitterly disappointed.
Although frustrating for some, to a certain extent there is, however, some logic to their decision not to replace the stolen water meters just yet.
The water supply was cut off on May 13 and, according to the office of the municipality, water consumption charges thereafter should not be reflected on consumer accounts.
A basic water charge will still be implemented regardless of the current water situation. This is due to the existing water points allocated to consumers.
Stolen water meters will not be replaced until after the next decent rainfall rolls in. Once running water is once again available, the stolen meters will be replaced with plastic or polycop meters which, note to water meter thieves, contain no materials which are of any resale value.
Discussions are ongoing regarding the replacing of the water meters which have not yet been solicited by thieves.
