Another ATM scam gives customer a nasty surprise

When the machine failed to react, he called the branch’s emergency centre to cancel the card.

An ATM scam was said to have occurred on one of the ATM machines at the Dundee Boulevard last Sunday.
Robert Govender claims that he ‘attempted to withdraw money and the ATM machine did not respond.’ When the machine failed to react, he called the branch’s emergency centre to cancel the card.
Thereafter, he received an SMS informing him that R1 150 had been withdrawn from his account between 12 to 12:15 in the afternoon’. Mr Govender said that he had opened a case with the SAPS who are investigating.
He also added that he had contacted the bank and said they would investigate.

He further added that he assessed whether there were security guards around the area. “There is no security in the area – only at the main branch which is in town,” said Mr Govender. He said he wanted the public to be aware of this ATM scam and be careful of who they ask to assist them.
