Lions and Lion ladies from in and around town paved their way to the Estcourt Golf Club to help the Estcourt Lions Club celebrate their fifth decade at their Charter Anniversary Dinner this past Saturday, July 16.

The local Lions Club was established in 1966, with a few service-minded men and women; working together to strengthen the community. Lions believe that the world gets better and problems get smaller when people unite to serve their local and global community.

Lions help where help is needed, in our own communities and around the world. A lovely evening of wining and dining, with friends and family was enjoyed over a scrumptious dinner to commemorate the milestone. Lions share a core belief that a community is what you make it.

To thank a few of the community members who assist them in carrying out their duties, former Lions President, Cecil Friend presented them with lovely gifts. The District Lions President, Willie van der Schyff, told the local club how proud he is of their work and that he would like to see the club reach another 50 years and take the club from strength to strength.

He also presented Patrick Louw with the chain as he was inducted President of the club to serve for the next year. Over the years, the club and its members have helped Kwazamokuhle School for the Disabled by embarking on a number of projects, as well as hosting the DJ Rally vintage bikers, raised funds for the Estcourt Hospice Association and held a diabetes drive, to mention a few.

Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion. Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organisation in the world with 1.4 million members performing valuable service in 210 countries and geographic areas around the globe. The club would like to thank all those who assisted in making the event a memorable success and for attending.
