Dundee pip Glencoe in golf derby

On Sunday the Dundee “B2” league golf team overcame a strong late challenge from their local rivals Glencoe, winning the match 11 – 7. Dundee picked up five points from a possible six in the morning foursomes, with the pairing of Marc Bradbury and Barry Sandy easily winning their game 5/3 and John Zulu and Melusi Sithole beating their opponents 3/2, while Kevin Donaldson and Pierre Booysen halved their foursomes.

This meant that the Dundee team only needed a further five points from the twelve that were on offer in the singles games.
John Zulu notched up an easy victory winning 6/5 while Marc Bradbury finished his game strongly to win his game on the last hole.
The Dundee team now only required a further one point from the last three games to secure a victory which was achieved when both Barry Sandy and Pierre Booysen held onto to halve their games and secure two more points for the Dundee team.

The Dundee “B1” team unfortunately suffered their third defeat in a row, going down 8 – 10 to a strong Newcastle team with only Cyril Mkhwanazi and Clement Sithole enjoying a victory in both their foursomes and the afternoon singles games.
Saturday’s club competition was played in the 4 BBBS format, and Walter Du Plessis, being a pivot for both Sifiso Kunene and Lorein De Witt, shot a great round of 70 to enable him and his partners to finish in first and second place.

This Wednesday, election day, the club competition will be a foursomes event and on Saturday is the Monthly Mug Medal Competition for August.
