Springbok legends delight more than 200 guests
The community rallied behind the charity fundraising weekend.
It was a weekend of rugby legends, community spirit and generosity as the Newcastle Rapportryers hosted a highly successful Mannea fundraiser on Friday, October 16, at Hutten Park Primary School, followed by the Amajuba Agri Golf Day on Saturday, October 17, at Newcastle Golf Club.
The Mannea attracted more than 200 guests, who enjoyed an unforgettable evening in the company of Springbok rugby legends Victor Matfield, Dean Greyling and Deon Stegmann.
Adding to the occasion were local rugby legends Pierre Uys, Pieter Meyer and Anton Pitout, who have also represented South Africa at various levels during their rugby careers.
Event organiser André Potgieter described the evening as an overwhelming success, highlighting the tremendous support received from the Newcastle community.
“The support we received was absolutely incredible. Events like these demonstrate what can be achieved when a community comes together for a common cause. The funds raised will go towards various community and charitable projects supported by the Rapportryers,” said Potgieter.

Golfers tee off for a good cause
The festivities continued the following day with the Amajuba Agri Golf Day, which attracted more than 90 golfers to Newcastle Golf Club.
Participants enjoyed a competitive yet enjoyable day on the course, with the added opportunity to interact with Springbok legend Dean Greyling.
The winners were as follows:
- 1st place: Elred and Jenny Darvall with 49 points (count-out)
- 2nd place: Roshan Singh and Ram Mewa with 49 points (count-out)
- 3rd place: Jannie Esterhuizen and Ronnie Acker with 48 points
- 4th place: Karel Swanepoel and Stephen Shaw with 47 points (count-out)
- 5th place: Paul Byrom and Dick Lemmer with 47 points (count-out)
Potgieter expressed his sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed towards making both events a success.
“A massive thank you must go to every sponsor, guest, golfer, volunteer and committee member who contributed towards these two events. Without the generosity of our sponsors and the hard work of everyone involved, none of this would have been possible.
“We are extremely grateful for the continued support from our local businesses and community. The success of these events allows us to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
The successful fundraising weekend once again highlighted Newcastle’s strong community spirit and the important role that local organisations, businesses and volunteers play in supporting charitable initiatives.
