ANC win Ladysmith by landslide

Facts and figures, hope and dreams...

The first interesting thing to note is that Ladysmith will now have a whopping 72 councillors… At close to R15000 per councillor, excluding exco councillors who get paid way more each month that is a monthly salary bill of over R1m per month for councillors alone.

Despite grand plans to officially rename the municipality, “The Alfred Duma Municipality” with the incorporation of Indaka the actual costs start now! Ladysmith now has one of the poorest former municipalities under it’s wing. With it came a strong contingent of IFP votes but not enough to sway the unstoppable ANC voting machine.

The ANC won 32 of the 36 wards outright with the IFP securing 3 (Wards 28, 29 and 36) and the DA only 1 (Ward 12).

When adding in PR candidates the ANC has 46, the IFP has 16, the DA 4, the EFF 4, NADECO 1, and NPA 1.

The results are not unexpected see editorial note on gerrymandering.
