Show of strength by commissioner before elections

Police will be deployed at all 222 voting stations in the district.

Amajuba District Commissioner Major-General FB Alexander led a show of strength operation at Newcastle Trimpark on Saturday (October 31) as part of the SAPS state of readiness for the upcoming local government elections.

Amajuba District SAPS spokesperson Constable Nonjabulo Langa said the operation brought together a fleet of 72 vehicles from all 11 police stations within the district.

“The vehicles will be utilised to enhance police visibility, maintain law and order, and ensure effective service delivery before, during and after the elections,” she said.

Alexander was accompanied by his management team and the station commanders of Newcastle, Madadeni, Osizweni, Dannhauser, Utrecht, Groenvlei, Kingsley, Hattingspruit, Charlestown, Ingogo and Normandien SAPS.

Police to maintain visibility during elections

During the parade, Alexander emphasised the importance of maintaining high levels of police visibility throughout the electoral period.

He urged officers to remain vigilant and alert at all times to ensure the safety and security of voters and the broader community.

He further explained that SAPS members would be strategically deployed across the 222 voting stations within the district. In addition to these deployments, teams would be positioned to respond swiftly to incidents and emerging security threats.

“Normal day-to-day policing operations and service delivery will continue throughout the electoral period,” he said.

Security stakeholders join parade

The SAPS Highway Patrol Unit also showcased its fleet alongside representatives from Road Traffic Inspectorate, Amajuba District Disaster Management, Magenta Private Security, Barnard Protection and More, and Ithemba Security.

Langa said their participation demonstrated the importance of co-operation and co-ordination among law enforcement agencies, government departments and private security stakeholders in ensuring safe and peaceful elections.

“The SAPS remains committed to safeguarding the democratic process, protecting voters and electoral officials, and ensuring that communities can participate in the elections in a safe and secure environment,” Langa concluded.
